crawfish boil 1

so again i escaped the monotony of UNO dormlife. good idea. venetian isles was once again the destination as i cannot get enough of this place. after seeing the first pics, a few friends of mine just had to come. we boiled about 40 pounds of crawfish, sausage, corn, potatoes, mushrooms, ya know...the works. emile also invited his niece and his nephew-in-law, who also enjoyed the delicious meal. but a crawfish boil is far from simply a dining experience...it's just an experience.

grande isle

i went to grand isle in september '07. the fishing was outstanding. we filled up an ice chest in only 2 hours or so.

death valley

so after leaving vegas, the "plan" was to drive back to the cold flat plains of nebraska, where i lived; however, i drove southwest instead of northeast. i went through death valley and ended up in the baja penninsula of mexico. 80 degrees was a lot better than the sub-zero temperatures in store for me back in nebraska.

Venetian Isles Spring Break

instead of going on the typical spring break trip for college students: getting drunk on some random beach in mississippi or florida, i decided to make a few extra bucks for my trip to austria this may. i went to venetian isles where i worked on a shrimpboat to get it ready for brown shrimp season and helped my friend emile fix up his house(it is still being repaired from the devastation of hurricane katrina, and he has done all of the work to it up to this point himself). we worked hard all day, but relaxed and fished in the evenings. his house is right on bayou savage in venetian isles where nutria, otters, mosquitos, gators, and humans coexist. the fishing wasn't too great this week, but nonetheless, it was good to get back out on the water and cast the pole anyway. i will be coming back here on weekends to continue working until may. i will get to work, i will get to learn, and best of all i will get to relax.
